Hotel Review: Best Western Stieglbrau – Salzburg

Posted on Monday, July 25, 2011 in Hotels | Viewed 460 times

BEST WESTERN Hotel StieglbräuSo, I made a rash decision booking the 2-star hotel in Munich.  For our stay in Salzburg, we opted for the familiar.  The familiar is a member of the Best Western hotel chain.  Of the 3 hotels in the city center, we chose the cheapest.  What’s the difference?  Read on.

Location

The hotel is located in the new part of Salzburg, a few mins walk away from Mirabell Palace, train station and Salzburg Congress.   From the airport, it will take 40 minutes by bus (Bus#2, Congress House stop).  From the train station,  it’s about 10 mins walk from the exit to your left or 1 stop from the bus stop in front of the station.

Best Western Stieglbrau is the older Best Western hotel sharing the same building as the Best Western Imlauer.  Both hotels are 4-star hotels but Stieglbrau is cheaper.

In the vicinity of the hotel, there’s a grocery, bakery, Chinese restaurant with good food and the tour operators area.  The hotel is roughly 25 to 30 mins walk to the old part of town.

Hotel Review: Hotel Dolomit – Munich

Posted on Thursday, July 21, 2011 in Hotels | Viewed 449 times

Image of Hotel Dolomit, MunichDon’t want to share your space with several people in one room and break your budget?  Look no further as I’m about to review this budget hotel which we made our home in our journey to Munich.

Location

The hotel is located along Goethestrasse in the Hauptbahnhof area, about 200m from Munich Central Station.  If you’re taking S1 or S8 from Josef Strauss Airport, walk towards the main station area where the inter-city trains are located.  The exit is near the Starbucks shop beside Platform 11.   Walk along Goethestrasse and the hotel is opposite the One Euro Shop.

One thing you should note about the hotel neighbourhood is it mainly hosts migrants from Middle Eastern countries.  Moreover, Goethestrasse is surrounded by adult shops, off-track betting center, small casino-like stores, hair salon, small convenience store and clothing stores.

Next Stop: Manila

Posted on Monday, June 6, 2011 in Whatevah! | Viewed 456 times

small13I’m still here.  Don’t call the police yet.  Anyway, I have been to Manila and back in Beijing for another quickie.  It seems like that’s what I normally do in Manila, a quickie.  It’s been a long time since I’ve stayed in Manila for a month.  I wonder when will it be.  In any case, it was a very hectic and slightly stressful 5 days in Manila.  Very happy to have the whole family together again.  So, what did I do?

Mars & Karen’s Wedding

It seems like there’s a wedding in my dad’s side of the family every two years.  Does that mean I still have to wait another 2 years before mine takes place?  Anyway, the wedding I attended this time is my younger sister’s wedding.  For the first time in my life, I was the maid of honor.  Since it was my first maid of honor gig, I don’t know what I was supposed to do.  I wrote the speech during the ceremony as I don’t really know what to say and I was just in denial that I have to give a speech.  Can’t I just be a normal member of the family and be a guest?? hehehehe!  The wedding was lovely, the music was great, the beef was yummy and everyone seems to have a good time.  Congratulations Nenkers and Mars!  We need to give Mars a nickname.

Movie Review: Rio

Posted on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in Movies | Viewed 843 times

image One of the things that my boyfriend and I do when he’s in town for business trips is to go on a movie date.  On his recent trip, I’m just so glad that a new movie came out which peaked both our interest.  The movie.. “Rio”

Birds vs Monkeys

If you’ve played Angry Birds, then the birds in this movie will be very familiar.  In Rio, the angry birds’ enemies are the monkeys instead of the pigs.  It’s a comedy, adventure and slight musical movie all-in-one.

The story began in the Brazilian forest where the birds are enjoying their freedom.  A baby male blue macaw fell from the nest and was smuggled to Moose Lake, Minnesota.  When the truck swerved violently due to slippery roads, the crate with the baby macaw was thrown out on the pavement.  A young child by the name of Linda found him and took care of him as her pet.  She named her feathery friend Blu and became one of the most important fixtures in her life.  Blu became domesticated, clever but never learned how to fly.

Glee Season 2 Predictions

Posted on Thursday, March 10, 2011 in TV Shows | Viewed 737 times

I never got the creative gene which my parents had in abundance.  What I got instead, is the love for music and a gift of singing.  I love to watch musicals and movies which incorporates music in their plot that when I heard that a new TV series will be shown May of last year, I made a point to watch it.

 Season 1

Twenty two episodes later, I’m hooked with Glee!  It’s not the story line that I’m a fan of but the music they sing and their performance in the show.  Somehow, I felt that they just work around the music and did not think of a solid plot.  The goals were to win sectionals, regionals and nationals.  Everything in between is just an add-on.  In the end of Season 1, New Directions placed last in regionals.  Looking back, I feel that in Season 1, they at least have a story and they connect with one episode after another.
