Resort Review: Anika Island Resort, Bantayan, Cebu

Posted on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 in Hotels, Philippines, Travel | Viewed 543 times

On my recent trip to Cebu, my fiance agreed to accompany me to my old summer playground of Bantayan Island.  From an initial group of 8, the group dwindled down to 6 (my dad, my sis, my bro-in-law, his mom, fiance and myself).  Our booking at Beach Placid was so messed up that one group was booked at Anika.  However, when we arrived, we were advised that Anika was not open to guests yet.  Now, how would I do my review then?

Location

Anika Island Resort is located on the beautiful Alice Beach in Santa Fe.  A van will pick up the group from Santa Fe pier or Bantayan airport.  If you wish to hire a van to pick you up at Mactan Airport, it will cost Php 3,000 all the way to Hagnaya Pier.  You can have this van arranged with the resort when you book it.  When you exit the pier, you turn right away from the town proper.  Nearby resorts include Santa Fe Beach Beach Club, Beach Placid, St. Bernard’s Resort and Tickety Boo Resort.  There are no restaurants in the surrounding area and you would need to either take a tricycle or walk if you want some fare outside the resort.

2010 Philippine Election: Who’s who?

Posted on Saturday, January 30, 2010 in Philippines | Viewed 902 times

Yesterday, January 30, marked the 100 day countdown till this year’s 2010 election.  For an OFW like me who’s out of the country and who doesn’t receive Filipino channel, it’s hard to know who to vote for the upcoming election.

As a citizen of the Philippines, I did my obligation and registered for overseas voting.  Up until now, I’m still waiting for the elusive voter’s ID.  The last time I voted was 1998.  I know I’m not being a good citizen but before I got the chance to vote in the previous elections, I saw myself uprooting myself to another place and it’s such a hassle to just vote knowing that the candidate I wanted to win, won’t win.

For overseas voters, we are advised to vote as early as April 16, if I’m not mistaken.  Hopefully, by then, I won’t see myself moving to another location and lose my chance to vote.  So.. who are the presidential candidates?  Here’s the list I got from COMELEC.

  • Vetallano Acosta for KBP
  • Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III for Liberal Party
  • John Carlos “JC” De Los Reyes for Ang Kapatiran
  • Joseph “Erap” Estrada for PMP
  • Richard “Dick” Gordon for Bagumbayan
  • Jamby Madrigal as Independent
  • Nicanor “Nicky” Perlas as Independent
  • Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. for Lakas-Kampi
  • Eduardo “Eddie” Villanueva for Bangon Pilipinas
  • Manuel “Manny” Villar for Nacionalista
