It came as a surprise to me that Philippine Airlines have in-flight entertainment already on their Beijing-Manila route. Last time I flew with this airline in 2006, there were no radio nor magazine nor newspapers, what more movies right?

Anyway, I’m quite happy that the movie they showed was a comedy featuring one of my favorite actresses, Sandra Bullock. This movie is a comeback movie for Sandra after taking quite a long break. She still look pretty and curvaceous though a bit older.

The Proposal is about a high powered executive, Margaret (Sandra Bullock) who was in the brink of being deported back to her native Canada. As a way to escape the clutches of the immigration personnel, she blackmailed her assistant, Andrew (Ryan Reynolds) to marry her.

Since they have to pretend to being engaged and soon to be married, what better way to let the groom’s family know than to attend his grandmother’s 90th birthday. Soon we saw them flying to Sitka, Alaska, where the groom’s family live. She didn’t realize that he came from a rich and loving family.

After an impromptu announcement by Andrew and an unbelievable proposal story to their guests, the weekend became an enlightening process to Margaret. Being alone since she was 16, she learned to realize what she’d missed and regret hurting the family that she’s learning to love.

In the end, she confessed in front of everyone that she blackmailed Andrew in order not to be deported and that the wedding is a sham. She went back with the immigration officer to New York and left Andrew with the aftermath.

The story was a light one and funny. Some hilarious moments are the way Andrew’s grandmother manipulate the family. The surprise for Margaret in the form of a slightly chubby exotic dancer. The chant and dance scene in the forest. The lovable dog, Kevin and the escape from the eagle. The accidental bumping with each other while naked. The boner which Andrew had and Margaret felt in a rush to pretend that they were cuddling in the morning.

BTW, don’t leave yet if you see the trailer as it doesn’t end with the kiss.

Verdict: 4 out of 5. If you’re looking for a way to relax and cuddle with your girlfriend, this would be the movie for you. Oh yeah, the couple don’t look cute together as you can really see the age gap.
