Hotel Review: Best Western Stieglbrau – Salzburg

Posted on Monday, July 25, 2011 in Hotels | Viewed 571 times

BEST WESTERN Hotel StieglbräuSo, I made a rash decision booking the 2-star hotel in Munich.  For our stay in Salzburg, we opted for the familiar.  The familiar is a member of the Best Western hotel chain.  Of the 3 hotels in the city center, we chose the cheapest.  What’s the difference?  Read on.

Location

The hotel is located in the new part of Salzburg, a few mins walk away from Mirabell Palace, train station and Salzburg Congress.   From the airport, it will take 40 minutes by bus (Bus#2, Congress House stop).  From the train station,  it’s about 10 mins walk from the exit to your left or 1 stop from the bus stop in front of the station.

Best Western Stieglbrau is the older Best Western hotel sharing the same building as the Best Western Imlauer.  Both hotels are 4-star hotels but Stieglbrau is cheaper.

In the vicinity of the hotel, there’s a grocery, bakery, Chinese restaurant with good food and the tour operators area.  The hotel is roughly 25 to 30 mins walk to the old part of town.

My Hotel Stay Experience

As the train station was under construction, asking for directions is not really that easy.  We found the street where the hotel is located but we have to re-orient ourselves in which direction it was.   When we arrived at the hotel, we were able to check-in easily.  The front office personnel was quite informative and provided us with the Salzburg card brochure, tour information brochure and a map.  Since our package does not include breakfast, he informed us that we could reserve seats from them.  He gave us the wifi password and wished us a good stay in Salzburg.

When we entered the room, it has an old homey feel.  The bed has the right touch of softness that you won’t drown yourselves while the pillows are not too soft as if air.  The digital alarm clock is quite bright that I would suggest pointing it to a different direction to serve as night light.  The round table in the corner served its purpose quite well as we used it a few times for dinner as take-away.

We met a Filipino who was working part-time at the hotel who gave us quite a few tips on where to go and provided us the electric pot without telling him about it as “you will need it tonight when the weather becomes colder”.

The location of the hotel was fantastic as it’s close to the bus stop to the airport and the tourist spots.  The wifi connection was spot on and fast.  We didn’t get to try breakfast as we only had a day and a half in the city.

Overall, i enjoyed my experience at the hotel and would recommend it to people who are planning to stay in Salzburg.  The cost is relatively cheap considering it’s a four star hotel.

That’s it for my hotel stays in this year’s Europe trip.  Next set would be the food I’ve tasted in the places I’ve been to.  Stay tuned!
