Image of Hotel Dolomit, MunichDon’t want to share your space with several people in one room and break your budget?  Look no further as I’m about to review this budget hotel which we made our home in our journey to Munich.

Location

The hotel is located along Goethestrasse in the Hauptbahnhof area, about 200m from Munich Central Station.  If you’re taking S1 or S8 from Josef Strauss Airport, walk towards the main station area where the inter-city trains are located.  The exit is near the Starbucks shop beside Platform 11.   Walk along Goethestrasse and the hotel is opposite the One Euro Shop.

One thing you should note about the hotel neighbourhood is it mainly hosts migrants from Middle Eastern countries.  Moreover, Goethestrasse is surrounded by adult shops, off-track betting center, small casino-like stores, hair salon, small convenience store and clothing stores.

Rooms & Amenities

The hotel has 91 rooms across five floors for single, double and triple room accommodations.  Accommodations can be “basic” which is only fitted with standard equipments or “comfort” which are brand new and with a lot more space and modern design.

Rooms are equipped with the following:

  • Toilet with bath
  • Toiletries such as toilet paper, towels, two plastic cups for water, shower gel/shampoo dispenser
  • Telephones (with no instructions on how it works)
  • Sound-proof windows (perfect during winter time)
  • Flat screen TV with only CNN and BBC as English channels
  • Internet LAN and WIFI (with surcharge.  LAN cable must be requested from reception)
  • Mini-electric fan (lucky if it works)
  • Desk and chair (for “comfort” rooms)

Surcharges:

  • Internet :  EUR 4.90 per day
  • Breakfast:   EUR 8 to 14 per person at Best Western Cristal
  • Parking:  EUR 14 for 1 night or EUR 12 per night for more than 2 nights

Amenities:

  • Meeting rooms
  • Luggage room
  • Lounge

Hotel Stay Experience:

After getting lost trying to figure out which exit from the central station, we trek our way to the hotel.  Check-in was a breeze at it was already pre-paid.  We were given our keys and pointed to the elevator.  No mention whatsoever of how much the surcharge for internet is.

When we opened the door to our room, first impression was it’s clean and modern.  It has basic amenities except for it doesn’t have air-conditioning.  We tried getting the mini-electric fan to work but it was also busted.  We tried the phone but we can’t figure out how it works.  When we went down to the reception, we were advised of the internet surcharge, definitely no air-conditioning and they can’t replace our fan.  In order to keep our room cool, reception advised to keep the windows open as it will be chilly later in the evening.

I’m just like, “WHAT?!”  A hostel would have air-conditioning and the cost for the room wasn’t that cheap.  It was a painful four nights stay as even though we’re on the fifth floor, the noise from the street can still be heard because of the open window.

Location-wise, the hotel is perfect as it’s close to the subway and main train station.  Getting to the main sites is easy and the map provided by the hotel is easy to follow.  Would I stay there again?  Perhaps, if I cant find any alternative.
