Next Stop: Manila

small13I’m still here.  Don’t call the police yet.  Anyway, I have been to Manila and back in Beijing for another quickie.  It seems like that’s what I normally do in Manila, a quickie.  It’s been a long time since I’ve stayed in Manila for a month.  I wonder when will it be.  In any case, it was a very hectic and slightly stressful 5 days in Manila.  Very happy to have the whole family together again.  So, what did I do?

Mars & Karen’s Wedding

It seems like there’s a wedding in my dad’s side of the family every two years.  Does that mean I still have to wait another 2 years before mine takes place?  Anyway, the wedding I attended this time is my younger sister’s wedding.  For the first time in my life, I was the maid of honor.  Since it was my first maid of honor gig, I don’t know what I was supposed to do.  I wrote the speech during the ceremony as I don’t really know what to say and I was just in denial that I have to give a speech.  Can’t I just be a normal member of the family and be a guest?? hehehehe!  The wedding was lovely, the music was great, the beef was yummy and everyone seems to have a good time.  Congratulations Nenkers and Mars!  We need to give Mars a nickname.

Ayala Triangle

I never knew that Ayala Triangle has restaurants to dine and socialize.  All I knew about Ayala Triangle is it’s a micro-Central Park in the middle of the Makati Central Business District.  I went there the day after the wedding for lunch and dinner.  Going there for lunch was not a problem but getting out of there after lunch and returning there for dinner was a nightmare.  Apparently, it was Makati Day and Ayala St. was close.  A simple 10 minute drive took 45 minutes in traffic.  Taxis were hard to find and it was raining hard.  By the time I reach my destination, I was harassed and look like someone who ran the marathon.

However, the food were delicious.  Where did I eat?  Kanin Club for lunch and Bon Chon Chicken for dinner.  At Kanin Club, I had a wonderful lunch with my aunt’s family and my aunt from the US.  It was my going away lunch again.  You better try the anchovy salad.  If you’re planning to have desserts for both you and your date, one order will do as the servings are quite big.

For dinner, I met up with the Starbucks Collectors at Bon Chon Chicken.  I kept hearing good reviews about this restaurant.  Apparently, it’s a fast food outlet.  The chicken is so good but the chicken size is quite small.  I think I can probably finish a 12 piece chicken wing order.  I dare you to try it.  I think the way they marinate it makes it unique from other restaurants.

Other Stuff

As usual, my trip won’t be complete without a visit to the dentist.  It didn’t become just one visit, but two as they need to put silver filling on my tooth and it needs to harden before they patch the other hole just opposite it.

There’s also the usual grocery and pharmacy pit stop.  I also get to eat foods that I miss the most like Jollibee and fish!  I didn’t get the chance to do the whole list of food that I should eat but just being with my parents and siblings made it worth the while.  I wonder when will the family be complete again.  I miss them already.

This is not the end.. my next stop will be Europe!  Stay tuned!
