Hotel Review: Maxwell Hotel – Cebu

Posted on Sunday, January 2, 2011 in Hotels | Viewed 1,101 times

A bane for backpackers and budget travelers is finding a cheap hotel in a good location. The Philippines is not really known for cheap accommodation and if you find something cheap, it’s not really great. If you find yourself in Cebu, you might want to check Maxwell Hotel.

Location

Maxwell Hotel is located at North Escario Street, Barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City. It opened in August 2008 and is a budget hotel smack at the heart of Cebu. Jeeps and taxes abound just outside the hotel. Major landmark is a Shell station in front, culinary arts school at the back of the building and a 24 hour McDonalds besides the Shell station.

Hotel room and Amenities

IMG_3167The hotel has 72 rooms differentiated between standard, superior, deluxe, triple and suite rooms. The standard to triple rooms are furnished with the following:

  • Double-mattress beds
  • 21” cable televisions
  • Air conditioning units
  • NDD/IDD telephones
  • Work desks with chairs
  • Internet cable with free DSL internet access (must ask the front desk for the cable)
  • Bathrooms with sink, toilet and shower (with heater)
  • Full-length closets
  • Daily newspapers
  • 2 free bottled water daily

Suite rooms have their own personal refrigerators and coffee tables.

IMG_3168Additional hotel amenities include:

  • Free wireless internet in hotel lobby
  • Free breakfast at Maxim’s Café and Restaurant for all registered guests
  • Convenience store
  • Spa with affordable massages
  • Travel agency
  • Function rooms for business meetings or social gathering

I had the chance to have a look at the standard room and I could say that they’re quite spacious and comfortable. The bathroom is almost half the size of the room and kids can play in it. Don’t expect a view though as there’s nothing to see in the vicinity. No slippers can be found inside the room and if you want one, you have to pay an extra Php 20.

Tariff rates

Standard tariff rates are as follows:

  • Standard Room: Php 2,000.00
  • Superior Room: Php 2,300.00
  • Deluxe Room: Php 2,700.00
  • Triple Room: Php 3,000.00
  • Suite Room: Php 3,500

The tariff rates are subject to change depending on seasonality. When my friend checked the price, they gave him Php 1,500 for a standard room with free breakfast and one free 30 minute foot massage coupon. Check-in time is 2:00pm and check-out time is 12 noon.

Contact information:

  • Phone number:  (63-32) 2557800 or 2558700
  • Email address: themaxwellhotel@gmail.com
  • Website:  http://www.themaxwellhotelcebu.com

From what I’ve gathered, they’re already fully-booked for the Sinulog Festival on the 16th of January. In Cebu, it’s best to check around for prices before settling for something. Call the hotel to check if they have any deals as the standard rates may be discounted further. Enjoy your stay in Cebu!
