imageMy friends and I were planning to watch Harry Potter 7 on IMAX. However, IMAX theatres in Beijing are quite few and in the outskirts of the city. It was officially shown on Nov 19 at 12mn. My boyfriend and I were thinking of watching it on the first night but work beckons and decided to postpone it after work on Nov 19.

After a delicious meal at Serve the People, we headed to Megabox at The Village to try our luck for some tickets. Luckily, there were still good seats available for the 11:15pm show. While waiting for the show to start, we drank some coffee at Starbucks and availed of their free wi-fi.

A Glimpse of the Past

I’m not what you called a die-hard Harry Potter fan but I’ve watched Harry Potter 1 to 3. The other Harry Potter, I haven’t had the chance to do so yet. In Harry Potter 1, the Golden trio (Harry, Hermoine and Ron) are all so adorable and naïve. They look the part as mentioned in the book but the movie was heavily edited so that it won’t drag too long. In Harry Potter 2, they aged a bit but can still pass as 12 year olds. The movie was a bit better than the 1st and you can understand the story even if you didn’t get the chance to read it. In Harry Potter 3, they no longer look like 13 year olds or maybe it’s because they mature faster in the UK? Harry Potter 4-6, I gave up and will watch it soon perhaps?

Impressions on Part 1 of the last Harry Potter

I’m not going to tell you the story anymore but basically they look like young adults and not the 17 year olds that they should be. Since I wasn’t able to watch the previous 3 movies, I was a bit surprised with the actors as they were a bit off from how they were describe in the books. You might be expecting a lot of action as they were supposed to be in the middle of a war but the action scenes were a little bit bland. I felt disconnected with the whole movie as if there’s no plot and if you are watching a Harry Potter movie for the first time, you wouldn’t know what the story is all about. There was a part in the movie which surprised me and several of the moviegoers, we had a good laugh after it. The way they end it for the Part 2 was nothing special. It seems like they don’t want you to watch the second part anymore.

Verdict: 2 out of 5 (it’s just hype. I prefer watching movies which can standalone like Red Cliff)
