Gadget Review: Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro

Posted on Thursday, November 18, 2010 in Gadgets | Viewed 2,366 times

Since I’ve used mobile phones after college, I’m proud to say that I’ve only replaced my phone six times. Some of my old phones are still functioning while some are already extinct or are too old to use. I’m the type of person who would only change the phone if it’s time to retire it or if someone gives it to me as a present.

On this blog, I’ll be writing about what I like about my latest “toy”. I’ve written my first impression of this toy way back in July. I’m no techie blogger like my brother, Calvin, who’s holding a contest right now for a chance to win a laptop! I rarely write about gadgets because I don’t understand them that well and it’s quite expensive to buy one just for the sake of reviewing it. In any case, I hope this will help you if you’re still contemplating if you would want to buy one for Christmas. Did I say that this “toy” is the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro aka “Mimi”? If my brother can name his gadgets, I’d
like to name mine as well.

Five Things I Like About My “Mimi”

  1. Design. It’s a ladies phone and not a guy’s phone. It’s small, handy and light, perfect to put inside a small purse if you’re out in a bar. It has a black face with silver buttons and silver plating on the side. The side keys are in the same color as the back cover. The back cover comes in three different colors (black, red, pearl white).
  2. Keyboard. Since the phone screen is relatively small for an android phone, typing something on the screen might be a challenge. However, my Mimi comes with a keyboard. Pressing the buttons is quite simple and you don’t need to have small fingers to type on it. At night, the keys will lit up so you don’t have to memorize it.
  3. Camera. It has 5 megapixels with flash. You could use it for video and still photos. It would be better if it comes with zoom capabilities but I think you can get an app for it on the android market. Now, I don’t need to bring both my phone and my camera to a party.
  4. Android OS. It’s the first time I’ve used the android OS and I still don’t know what’s the difference between the 1.6 and the 2.1 versions. One thing I like about the Android OS is the free apps! Compared to the Symbian OS, it responds well with the touchscreen interface.
  5. Sturdy. Oops.. there goes my phone! Not even a month of using this phone, it already went nosediving in the escalator. The phone literally broke apart but when you assemble it back together, it’s still working with scratches only in the back cover. Apparently, the phone went through a series of stress test so it doesn’t break easily like glass. (Note: dropping it in water will give your phone instant death unless you remove the battery out right away and dry it using a hair dryer.)

The five things above are the top five things that I really like about my phone. I didn’t mention the mp3 player as it’s already one of the things Sony Ericsson is quite famous for. Should I write about the things I don’t like about Mimi? Let me know, I could probably name a few as well.

  1. Rhapsody as an app! Apple now has this but i wish it could be stored on my iPod with its sad 64kbps bit rate.

I really do not hope that the crackers will gain control over the playstation 3 machines! With 50 million multicore CPU’s at their disposal, they could wreak mayhem!
